26If we deliberately keep on sinning after we have received the knowledge of the truth, no sacrifice for sins is left, 27but only a fearful expectation of judgment and of raging fire that will consume the enemies of God.
DISCUSS & REFLECT
This week in church we looked further at the importance of giving up our judgment of others to God. The scripture we looked at this week was the story of the woman who was brought to Jesus after being caught in the act of adultery. After the pharisees leave the scene Jesus approaches the woman and says “Go now leave your life of sin.” This is exactly what he is saying to each of us after we accept salvation through Him. So many times we find ourselves coming back to the same old sin, the sin that Jesus has already set us free from. The scripture above from Hebrews is an awesome eye opening look into this. If we go back to the sins that brought us to seeking salvation in the first place then what is really left? I feel sometimes after we accept salvation we still fail to fully surrender ourselves over to God. This is one of the most important steps in our walk with Jesus, without this surrender we don’t allow the full work of His blood to take place in our lives. We need to remember that our salvation through Jesus isn't just a golden ticket to heaven but a complete freedom from bondage and sin. If there’s a sin you have fallen back into lately don’t let the shame of your sin hold you captive, the enemy loves to make us feel like we have fallen too far but remember what Jesus said “In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”
1. Why is it so hard to leave certain sins behind completely?
2. What is one thing we can do to pick ourselves back up when we fall victim to our sin?
3. What is one way we can personally share the saving truth of Jesus Christ with the world?
LIVE IT OUT
This week I want you to think of one sin you have fallen back into lately. Find someone who you feel comfortable sharing it with and pour out what's on your heart. Sometimes it can really help getting it out in the open and admitting the areas in our lives where we have fallen. After sharing pray together about the sin and let the blood of Jesus cover that sin in your life once and for all!
