12 For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.
DISCUSS & REFLECT
This week in church as we discussed giving up our judgment of others to God we discussed how a lot of the time when we are judging it is because we are struggling ourselves in the same area where we are passing judgment. In this week's devotional I want us to be thinking about that as we discover how we can use the word to reveal to us those areas that we are struggling. The scripture above tells us that the word judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart. As we get into the word it begins to work through us revealing the areas in our lives where we need to make changes. I know from personal experience just from spending time daily in the word I have had many areas in my life that I hadn’t even realized were an issue until God allowed those areas to be revealed through his word. There are times when we can get honest with ourselves and realize that we need improvement in certain areas but if we don’t have the word, God’s truth, to guide us then we can never fully make a true life change.
1. What are the biggest areas of life that you constantly find yourself judging other people on?
2. What should we do when we catch ourselves judging others?
3. What is one thing you think others judge you on?
LIVE IT OUT
This week every time you catch yourself judging someone write down what it is that you are judging. Every night grab your list and pray about each thing you have written down asking God for wisdom and insight on those areas. We might not give up all the judging we do to God in one day but with prayer and the power of God’s word we can start to see those victories pile up!
