DISCUSS & REFLECT
This week in church we talked about the importance of giving up control to God. Only God knows the plans he has for our lives and He is the only one who can lead us through them. Whenever we try to do things on our own we run into constant resistance and we often feel as though we’re always taking one step forward and two steps back. It’s hard to give up control of things in our lives because we often feel like so long as the situation is in our hands we can determine the outcome of that situation. The problem with holding onto control is when we get really honest with ourselves we realize that we have absolutely no idea of what we are doing. It’s like we are trying to navigate our way through a foreign country without a GPS or even a map. God knows the map of our lives and he knows every turn we need to make, when we give him control we release the responsibility of navigating this foreign place to the one who not only has the map but designed the roads.
1. Why is it important that we surrender control of every area of our lives to God?
2. What are a few areas in your life you feel you are trying to hold back from God?
3. Why do you feel as though you’re having trouble giving up those areas to God?
LIVE IT OUT
This week pick one area in your life that you haven't fully surrendered control over to God. Every time you’re faced with a decision pertaining this area of your life, bring it to God first and practice surrendering over control. It may be difficult to surrender that area over fully to God but like many battles in our lives it starts with one victory at a time!
